Thoughts on The Catcher in the Rye

Thu Oct 1, 2009, 10:16 AM
The Catcher in The Rye

“I read the goddam book for two days. It killed me.”

I want to write a review on this book, seriously. I’d probably post it on Wordpress. Short note, it kinda changed my perceptions, the book. First off, I felt that talking trash is okay in literature. I mean, J.D. Salinger did it and had sold out. Not that I want to sell out or anything, I mean the last thing I wanna happen to me is to sell out. Next, this borderline dude Holden really cracked me up like hell. 90% of the time, we think alike—swears a lot, he hates conformity and superficiality (phony), smokes a lot, WILL NEVER flunk English, and he keeps on inserting stories in the story—and all the other crap he does spells me in the picture. Plus the fact that I am also a borderline dude, and might end up in a mental institution some time soon.

.

The meaning behind the book is as deep as hell I guess. Who knows? I might even read it again just to squeeze the message out of it. ‘See, I like squeezing messages out of the much talked about stuff in the world. Remember my review on Bruno? I’m also fond of disagreeing with everyone in the world and hating their views in life just to make a point. I like it that way, especially when at least one agrees with me. I like disagreeing but I hate debating or competitions and all that crap. I think J.D Salinger would be my favorite author of all time. He’s like my Saint, next to Andy Warhol.
